O’Duffy Cup Final Clontibret added the O’Duffy Cup to their senior championship title when they defeated Scotstown in a tough, hard hitting final at rain and wind swept Gavan Duffy Park Monaghan on Saturday 27th October.
A purple patch by Clontibret midway through the second half was crucial to this victory as they registered 1-4 without reply to open up a seven points lead and leave Scotstown chasing the game from their on.
The sides went in level at the break, Clontibret 0-5, Scotstown 1-2 after Scotstown had taken an early lead with a goal by Daniel McNally.
In the 2nd half Clontibret continued to dominate but it wasn’t until the 16th minute when Noel Morgan hit the Scotstown net that they took the lead and with three points in quick succession they effectively sealed it at that stage. Scotstown pulled back a late goal form a penalty but they never looked like closing the gap.
