Row Mars Cross Win

Crossmaglen 1-8
Clontibret 1-7

A brawl at the end of this entertaining encounter marred Crossmaglen’s hard fought win over a battling Clontibret side at Clones on Sunday afternoon, 4th November.

A number of players were involved in a scuffle at the final whistle, which resulted in Crossmaglen substitute Cathal Short being shown the red card.

This match had everything and looked as if a draw would be the outcome as both sides gave everything for the full sixty minutes, but Cross’s experience was to prove the difference.

Oisin McConville proved to be the hero once again for Cross as he and Tony Kernan kicked the vital points to ensure the victory, but Clontibret will be disappointed not to have at least earned a draw.

McConville missed two first half penalties, but did manage to convert the rebound on the second attempt, while at the other end county star Vincent Corey was causing the Crossmaglen defence major trouble.

The All-Ireland club champions were reduced to 14 men when John Donaldson was alleged to have struck Dessie Mone form behind in the first half.

In the second half, Clontibret used the extra man well and Corey scored a fine goal to ensure the match went down to the wire, but Cross dug deep to advance to the last four.
